January 8, 2015 – The Augusta Free Press reports that Canon Virginia will invest some $100 million in order to expand its toner-cartridge manufacturing operations in Newport News, Virginia. The announcement was made by Virginia State Governor Terry McAuliffe. Canon Virginia will expand with “additional printer-cartridge production lines” as well as increase its toner manufacturing and filling. Canon U.S.A. CEO Joe Adachi says the investment will total about $100 million.

Canon Virginia Inc. serves as the manufacturing, engineering, recycling, and technical support center for Canon in the Americas region.

McAuliffe says the new, high-tech equipment requires intensive higher-scale training and will provide workers with skills essential to build Virginia’s economy.

McAuliffe approved a $3 million performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program for the Canon project. He discussed the project with Canon Inc. officials in Tokyo during a recent Asian trade mission.
