Samsung Rolls out 2014 ‘Smart’ Desktop Printer and MFP Lineup with NFC, Google Cloud Print

Samsung Electronics U.S. launched three new A4 printer and MFP lines, the Xpress C18x0, M28x5, and M20x0, all of which feature multiple provisions for mobile printing and scanning, including Google Cloud mobile printing, Near Field Communications (NFC) touch-to-print mobile printing, and Wi-Fi Direct printing..

With NFC mobile printing, the user taps their NFC-enabled mobile device on the printer or MFP in order to establish a Wi-Fi direct connection. This enables printing to the printing from smartphones and tablets with the Samsung Mobile Print App for iOS and Android. Samsung’s Mobile Print app lets users print JPEG, TIFF and PDF files and images, and all Microsoft Office files. With the new version of the app, Google Cloud printing is supported.

With NFC, users can also scan images to their NFC-enabled device, and share documents stored on their mobile device via the Samsung device’s fax capability. Also of note is that when the Samsung printer or MFP displays an error message, the user can tap their NFC-enabled mobile device on the printer or MFP, and a step-by-step series of troubleshooting images or videos is displayed on their mobile device for resolving the problem.

Samsung’s Easy Printer Management for mobile devices, which was previously only available for PCs, allows for monitoring of printer information and status, such as toner and paper levels..

The black-and-white Xpress M28x5 series is the fastest among the new devices, as it’s rated at up to 29 ppm. while the black-and-white Xpress M2020 series is rated at up 21 ppm. The Xpress C18x0 series, which can print in color, is rated at up to 19 ppm in both black-and-white and color.

All models also use the same all-in-one toner cartridges. The MLT-D11S black toner cartridge yields 1,000 pages, while each cyan, yellow, and magenta cartridges yield 1,800 pages.

All models feature a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port, 802.11b/g/n wireless interface, and Wi-Fi Direct.  Models and pricing consist of:
