mobile appFresh off the introduction of its new e-Studio5560C/6560C/6770C A3 color MFPs – see here – Toshiba America Business Solutions is introducing its new Apple iOS version of its free e-Bridge Print & Capture Mobile App for wirelessly printing from iOS iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch mobile devices.

The new app enables iPhone (starting with the iPhone 3GS), iPad (supporting all versions available since March 2011), and iPod touch (beginning with devices available on September 2010) users to wirelessly scan from and print to Toshiba’s e-STUDIO MFPs. Users may also attach scanned files to email messages, share documents with other Apple applications, and upload files to a cloud-based document-storage service such as Box.com, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive).

“Apple, Android and BlackBerry are the majority of mobile OS devices in use today across business and consumer segments,” commented Dinesh Srirangpatna, research manager for transformation at IDC. “Toshiba’s mobile print portfolio, which already incorporates Android mobile print, is strengthened by adding support for Apple devices. This will be welcome in BYOD small business environments to assist productivity.”

The free e-BRIDGE Print & Capture app supports most cloud-based data-storage locations to upload information into the cloud, and retrieve it from the mobile device, or by printing the content on a Toshiba e-STUDIO MFP. Users can also find and locate all e-STUDIO MFPs residing on a network, or identify a specific device by scanning a Quick Response (QR) code from their mobile Apple device. By recognizing user authentication and department codes, Toshiba’s mobile app may also be used to monitor and track print and scan use.

Toshiba’s latest e-BRIDGE offering also includes the company’s Re-Rite optical character recognition (OCR) software, which converts scanned documents into an editable format, then distributes those files to a user-preferred cloud storage site. The app also enables users to scan documents to the latest Adobe protocol, including PDF/A (archive) and Slim PDF (high memory compression) as well as into JPEG and TIFF file formats.

The app also features the company’s Toner Save mode and Omit Blank Page options.

e-BRIDGE Print & Capture is also compatible with all Android smartphone and tablet devices supporting version 2.3.3 (released in February 2011) or later. A download of Toshiba’s iOS version of its e-BRIDGE Print & Capture mobile software is available at the iTunes Web site here.
