A4 MFPs Lead Growth in India, Reports Gartner

The printer and MFP market in India grew 3.9 percent year-over-year in first-quarter 2012, according to market-research firm Gartner, which reported that 6,95,128 units were shipped in the first-quarter.
The A4 MFP segment showed a healthy growth of 16.8 percent versus first-quarter 2011, and Gartner expects this segment to remain the growth engine in the print market as the price gap between MFPs and printers continues to narrow amid a broader range of MFP products and a continued sales focus.

“The first quarter was a mixed bag for most of the print providers in the Indian market. The imaging industry saw a slight push by the government and the home segment despite the glum economic scenario prevailing overall in the IT sector,” said Amrita Choudhury, a research analyst at Gartner.

HP remained the leader in the India printer, copier and MFP market in first-quarter 2012, with market share of 58.7 percent, followed by Canon with 12.7 percent share, Epson with 9.7 percent share, and Samsung with 8.8 percent share.
