The U.S. Consumer Protection Agency issued an alert that Konica Minolta is voluntarily recalling about 8,430 magicolor and bizhub printers/MFPs in the United States due to a potential fire hazard caused by the printers short-circuiting and overheating during use. Konica Minolta says it’s aware of two reports of printers overheating, but that no injuries have occurred.
The affected printers are the magicolor 4750DN, magicolor 3730DN, bizhub C35 and bizhub C35P, and were sold through value-added resellers, direct retail sales and authorized Konica Minolta dealers from June 2010 through March 2011 for between $900 and $3,500.
The U.S. Consumer Protection Agency says users should immediately stop using the products and contact Konica Minolta to schedule a free replacement. Authorized service agents will perform repair and replacements of faulty components on the bizhub C35 and C35P.
Customers can contact Konica Minolta at (800) 825-5664 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says it welcomes reports any incident or injury reports related to the products.
