Lexmark recently issued an update summarizing mobile-printing options for its printers, MFPs, and ink-jet All-in-Ones, with the firm noting that mobile printing is the “‘now’ imperative.” Following is an overview of the firm’s current mobile-printing capabilities.
The Lexmark Mobile Printing App, which is designed for Android and Apple iOS smartphones and tablets, allows users to print to the Lexmark Pro715 and Pro915 color ink-jet All-in-Ones and to most Lexmark laser printers introduced since 2005. Users can print Adobe PDFs and image files such as JPEGs. The app is available for free at the Apple and Android marketplaces. It’s available here at the Apple store. Lexmark stresses that at this time time, the only All-in-Ones and/or ink-jet printers from which users can print from their mobile phones are the Pro715 and Pro915.
Lexmark’s Print Release solution – shown in the diagram below – also provides mobile printing when it’s deployed in the enterprise, as either on-premise software or as Software as a Service (SaaS). With this pull-printing solution, users print to the cloud or to a single network print queue, and go to any Print Release enabled printer or MFP to release the job for printing after swiping an ID badge or entering their credentials. Users can print from PCs, tablet PCs, and smartphones with Print Release.
